Hitting the mud ...

What happens when?
Posted: 13 Dec 2014 - By: Alexander Arthur

I'm sailing a Rival 34D based on the East Coast of Scotland.  I sometimes hit the mud - see:

It occured to me to wonder what happens when a Rival 34D gets left behind by the tide.  Lots of embarassment and misery, but will it lift off again with the next tide, or does the water go down the companionway before the boat floats off?

Assuming, of course, that no other related disasters (weather, breakers ...) intervene.

I don't plan to make the experiment, but would be curious if anyone else has had to find out ...

Alex.
