Rival 38 cutlass bearing

Posted: 4 Oct 2018 - By: Ned Phillips

Hello, I am renovating a Rival 38 and have got to the stern gear. the prop shaft and engine are out and now I want to replace ther cytlass bearing and probably the shaft as well. The stern tube and cutlass bearing are internally fed with water so there is not the usual tail piece that unscrews from the stern tube. I have looked at the drawings in the technical area of this site but they show a protruding stern tube with grub screws hilding the cutlass bearing in place. The arrangement on my boat has an end fitting visible from outside with no grub screws or obvious way of dismatling it further. Can anyone shed any light on what my next step should be? a pictrure is attached below.Thank you
