Heading Indicator
Posted: 20 Sep 2016 - By: Jeremy Lenton

Has anyone installed a heading indicator (which before electronics I used to think of as a fluxgate compass) as an aid to collision avoidance with an electronic radar and chart plotter system?  If so, is it worth the considerable cost over the radar and chart plotter?

If you reply, please can you distinguish your usual cruising / voyaging areas.  It may be invaluable in the English Channel (dense commercial shipping) but largely irrelevant for a trans-atlantic voyage.

What think you?
