R36 Seacocks

Posted: 26 Jan 2013 - By:
Under the transom of my R36 are two seacocks. One is for the exhaust, a great big bronze job, sadly a gate valve and the other is the manual bilge pump outlet, a heavy duty plastic one, lever type.
Both have their controls in about the most inaccessible place possible, around the back as you look into the lazarette.
Servicing them today was nigh on impossible. Why do boat builders do this? If you ever need to shut these urgently, the boat/engine would be swamped before you could get the job done.
The answer is to turn them through ninety degrees so that you can get at the controls. Anybody ever done this? Any snags before I start?
