Fuel Tank Level Sender R36

The fuel tank level sender on our Rival 36 doesn't work so I suspect it needs replacing. I have identified two wires that go into a connector on the top of the fuel tank that I can see by looking forward from the stern lockers, but access looks really tricky. Has anyone any experience of this job?
