rudder drain hole.

Posted: 5 Dec 2009 - By:
hello all,
when i owned my ballad, each year on lifting for the winter i (on advice from the ballad forum)drilled a small hole in the base of the rudder, close to the stock, this allowed any ingress of water to ease out and dry out the inner core.initially i was sceptical of the benefits of doing this, but water did drip out, stop, and helped the winter drying period.come refit, filled the hole and in she went.gradually the water out became less.and it did seem to benefit the boat.
do any of you opt for this on your winter lift-outs i wonder? is it normal practise on rivals?
if so where abouts did you drill? again, glad to hear from you. :)
