Rig Tension

Posted: 9 Apr 2008 - By: Ian and Susie McKay Southall
Hi

We bought Zarene (Rival 41 number 2) at the back end of last year and have been slowly getting to know her.

Over the winter we tried tensioning what had seemed to be a pretty loose rig in line with the generally held wisdom of around 15% of breaking strain of the wire. On the face of it this seems very tight and being the age she is I wonder if she comes from an age of floppier rig tension. Can anyone help with any prescribed tension direction from Brett's original drawings?

Also, I would like to fit an inner stay to take a storm sail and suspect that the positioning of this would be in line with the position for the cutter rig's inner stay. Does anyone have  measurements from the mast base for this or perhaps a complete rig spec for the Rival 41 centre cockpit version.

Many thanks - in the run up to buying Zarene we were regular visitors to the forum for valuable hand holding - it's great to now be 'official'!

Cheers
