Engine space under cockpit sole

Technical
Posted: 26 Jul 2007 - By: Julia (& Liz MacInally) Randall
Every time I check the oil I look into the cavernous depths of the engine space, running underneath to the rear of the cockpit, and wonder how to make better use of this potential storage.  Our cockpit sole is solid, no hatch, our fifth berth has access only to the left side of the engine, and the under-seat lockers on the cockpit only extend vertically downwards, not into the void.

Are other people's R32s identical, or have other owners managed to use the space for something other than an air supply for the engine?

Our boat is 1977, hull moulded by Marcon, and amateur-finished.
