To Kicker or not to kick?

Posted: 21 Jun 2019 - By: Geoff Crowley

Contender (R32) has not ever had a kicker as far as I can see. But it's become obvuious to me that it could do with one. And my realisation of that comes after I'd installed a bracket to hold the liferaft just aft of the mast, meaning that the liferaft now blocks the way for a kicker. I'm thinking of moving the liferaft holder (and its contents) aft of the centrally located roof vent / skylight, a position now occupied normally by our rolled up inflatable dinghy. I'll move the dinghy to where the liftraft is now, but being so much lower in height than the liferaft cannister, it should fit under a rope and pulley type kicker. For simplicity and low cost I'll make a kicker in rope and pulleys, fixing it under the boom and to mast base.

Anyone any experience in the difference a kicker makes on an R32?
