The Association
Founded in 1974 by PETER BRETT, the RIVAL designer, the ROA is an Association of owners past and present, the aim of which is to promote friendly contact between owners and crew worldwide. Membership is also open to all who are interested in Rival yachts - for example, those seeking information before buying a Rival.
The ASSOCIATION provides help and encouragement to all owners, whether in their home waters or undertaking long distance cruises. It also provides a forum for discussion about alterations to existing boats and advice regarding completion of hulls. The main source for all this is the annual publication of the RIVAL ROUND-UP containing articles on cruises and technical subjects submitted by members. The PETER BRETT TROPHY is awarded annually for the best article. There is an index of all the articles published over the past 20 years, thus enabling members to gain first hand knowledge of the cruising areas and technical points by requesting a copy of the article from our President for the price of printing and postage. Past RoundUps are also all available on the website.
There are over 600 Rivals worldwide so there is a wealth of information available just for the asking. If you are a non-member then Jane Ashe, our president will normally be able to provide information at cost (photocopying plus postage)
The Association has established Area Groups which hold rallies at convenient locations in the Areas. At present there are groups in the UK on the South and East Coasts, the West Country, Scotland and one covering the West Coast and Ireland. There are also active groups in Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA. The Association issues a Newsletter three times a year which gives information about the Groups' activities and of boats and articles for sale.
The Annual General Meeting is held in LONDON, after which a Dinner is held at which the Peter Brett Trophy is presented to the current winner. The current subscription is £30.00 per annum. If you would like to join please email or write to the Membership Secretary at the address shown on the contacts page.
